Lambton OPP is noticing an increase in the number of impaired drivers out on area roadways this holiday season.
The West Region OPP Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign began in November.
"Last year during the entire festive RIDE season, 18 charges were laid against 16 individuals. Already this season, 16 individuals are facing 26 charges," read an OPP social media post. "Lambton OPP are continuing to be actively engaged in random RIDE checks in hopes to discourage impaired drivers."
West Region OPP previously posted to X, formerly Twitter, that 180 impaired driving charges have been laid as of December 6.
Lambton had the highest number of impaired driving charges laid across the region, followed by Essex County with 24 and Middlesex County with 18.
Brant and Perth counties recorded the fewest number of impaired charges (so far this season) with five each.
In addition to the charges laid, West Region OPP issued 22 warn-range suspensions and held 987 RIDE events thus far.
The Festive RIDE campaign will run until January 1.
