The Sarnia Police Service is encouraging businesses to take preventative measures against theft.
The advice comes following an increase in smash-and-grab break and enters.
According to police, five small businesses along the London Road corridor, and in the downtown area, have been the victim of this type of break-in over the past two nights.
Sarnia police said these types of crimes can be costly, because it usually requires the replacement of glass and damaged property.
Businesses are being advised to not keep cash in their buildings after hours, and to open the till to display there is no cash available.
Installing security cameras, bright lighting, ensuring your alarm system is working, installing window security film to make it hard to break glass, and even metal bars and grates is also recommended.
Police said normally suspects are only seeking a small financial award from this type of crime.
Anyone who sees suspicious behavior near a business is asked to report it, because it could be a potential crime.
