Sarnia police and Lambton OPP will be going for a brisk swim and participating in the Polar Plunge.
Courageous swimmers will jump into icy waters with all of the proceeds going to Special Olympics Ontario and the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The event will be held at Lambton College on Saturday, February 10. Registration is at 11 a.m. and the plunge will begin at noon.
Sarnia Chief of Police Derek Davis will be one of the individuals taking a chilly dip.
"I'm trying to psychologically prepare for leaping into the icy water," he laughed.
Davis said he thinks at first it will be quite the shock.
"We're committed to this as I mentioned. It's for a great cause, so it's the least we can do," he said.
As of Thursday, February 8, over 430 donors have raised close to $23,000 for the event. The Sarnia police team has raised over $1,300 so far, surpassing its $1,000 goal.
Davis said at first he was apprehensive.
"This will be a good time, I think we're all going to enjoy it and look back and be very glad that we participated," he said.
He also explained that he was signed up to participate by someone else on Sarnia police.
"Deputy Craddock was kind enough to enter my email and name which is on behalf of the Sarnia Police Service and I've since formally accepted," Davis said.
Anyone wishing to participate can register as a team or as an individual right up to the event.
There will also be a barbecue, hot chocolate, and 50/50 draw and other games.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
