City seeks input on potential Strangway expansion

Community members are being asked to provide input on possible improvements and additions being considered at the Strangway Centre.

The City of Sarnia recently launched an online survey on the Speak Up Sarnia website with proposed concept designs for the facility.

Both scenarios include a full-size gymnasium and a lager parking lot to accommodate more spaces.

The concepts also include possible washroom and changeroom upgrades, a multi-use social lounge, and an outdoor seating space.

Parks and Recreation Manager Krissy Glavin said use of the centre has increased over the last several years so they want to ensure that improvements will meet the needs of current and future members.

"We want people to look at the design options. One option contains a stage, the other doesn't. There is an opportunity for the public to select their preferred design, provide feedback on both, and feedback on potential features," she said.

Glavin also said respondents will be asked about the type of programming they would like to see with having an expanded space.

As part of the consultation process, an open house will be held on March 28 during two separate sessions. Residents can stop by the multi-purpose room at Strangway Centre between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. or between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

"The consultants who have done the design work will be on-site, they'll have a few different stations and activities to provide feedback, take a closer look, and have some conversations about each of the specific designs," Glavin said.

the survey will be available until April 4 at 4 p.m.

Glavin said they hope to compile feedback and preliminary designs to present to city council by this summer.
