Sarnia's Sounds of Summer returns

Free outdoor summer concerts can be heard at Sarnia parks as Sounds of Summer returns for a 33rd year.

The concert series began on Tuesday, June 5 with a Scottish-themed night at the Suncor Agora.

Opening week will continue with RELIC (rock, country, blues) on June 5 at Kenwick Park, Cabin Fever (alternative, folk rock) on June 6 at Paul Blundy Park, and Borderline (variety) on June 6 at Germain Park.

The City of Sarnia said this year's concert schedule will include an array of local and out-of-town acts, with various genres including blues, pop, classical, and rock.

“It’s exciting to be gearing up for another Sounds of Summer, not only showcasing some of the great musical talent in Sarnia and beyond, but also the city’s numerous beautiful public spaces,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Krissy Glavin.

The concert series will run until August 22 with more than 50 shows planned.

All concerts will begin at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.

The city said venues in June include: the Cantara Park Bandshell on Mondays, the Suncor Agora at Centennial Park on Tuesdays, Kenwick Park on Wednesdays, Paul Blundy Park on Thursdays, and Germain Park on Thursdays.

Venues will shift in July and August, with Mondays at the Canatara Park Bandshell, Tuesdays at the Canatara Park Seaway Kiwanis Pavilion, Wednesdays at Kenwick Park, and Thursdays at both Paul Blundy Park and Germain Park.

Further details and concert lineups can be found on the Sounds of Summer webpage.

The city said shows cancelled due to weather will try to be rescheduled toward the end of the season if possible.
