City seeks input on Norm Perry Park master plan

The City of Sarnia wants your help as it works to craft a master plan for the future of Norm Perry Park.

Residents are being asked for their experiences and insights to ensure the popular recreational facility continues to serve the athletes and organizations who rely on it.

The city said the 9.2-acre athletic park, located at Exmouth Street and Christina Street, requires reinvestment as many of its amenities are near or past their end of life.

The bleachers are currently being replaced, but a master plan will ensure that future investments address the most crucial needs while creating a roadmap for further improvements to the facility.

Parks and Recreation Manager Krissy Glavin said the city is excited to get the process underway.

"The facility itself is aging, and we're looking to create a plan for upcoming improvements to the site or what the site might require," said Glavin. "We're seeking input from the community, and the user groups that utilize the space. We want to hear what their needs are and what they have planned moving forward so we can contribute to this master plan through their eyes."

Glavin said part of the plan is to see what could be added to the park, beyond its main use which is currently sports.

The results from the master plan will help shape the city's budget while ensuring investments are well defined to capitalize on future grant and funding opportunities.

An online, community-wide survey has been launched where residents can share their experiences and insights with the park and potential future improvements.

This comes ahead of direct engagement with stakeholders, including groups that regularly use the park.

Norm Perry Park is named after Sarnia Imperials football legend and two-time Grey Cup champion Norm Perry.

The City of Sarnia is also developing master plans for Canatara and Germain parks.
