Non-profit supports outreach programs for Lambton seniors

A non-profit organization has donated $4,000 to Lambton Elderly Outreach to help host events so older adults can get involved in social activities.

The financial contribution from District 38 Lambton of RTOERO (formerly the Retired Teachers of Ontario) will specifically support four programs: Forever Fit Exercises (held three days per week), Peer Social Club (monthly), Diner's Club (held four times per month), and the Break the Ice-olation series (held four times per year).

“These initiatives go a long way to foster social connections, promote physical well-being, and enhance the overall quality of life for participants,” said District 38 Lambton President Bert Phills in a statement.

District 38 Lambton has approximately 1,200 members.

RTOERO describes itself as an organization that advocates for education workers and retirees. It also gives back to communities across Canada through projects ranging from environmental sustainability to supporting healthy and accessible communities.

RTOERO's community grants program began 24 years ago. Since then, it has donated nearly $2.1 million which supported more than 600 programs and projects.

This year, RTOERO has funded 31 projects with donations amounting to $122,252 in total.
