Children will be searching for eggs at Canatara Park this weekend as the long-running Easter in the Park celebration returns.
The free event, held in partnership with Seaway Kiwanis, will be held on Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., near the Animal Farm.
The main event will be the egg hunt, where brightly coloured eggs can be traded in for a treat. Participants are asked to bring their own baskets.
The egg hunt will begin at 10 a.m. and there will be designated zones for different age groups and those with accessibility needs.
Recreation and Parkland Planning Services Manager Krissy Glavin said other activities will include face painting, inflatables, crafts, train rides, balloon twisting, and performances by Bella Magic at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
"The nice thing with Easter in the Park is there's lots going on between those hours of 9 a.m. to noon, which allows families to have a bit of flexibility to come and take in some of the attractions on their own," she said.
The Easter Bunny will also be hopping around the park.
Glavin said the event usually attracts "well over 1,000" people.
"Time of year and weather, I think can fluctuate that slightly but it's definitely still a very well attended event in our park," Glavin said. "It's been going on for some time so I think lots of people still venture their way out to participate. It's a lot of fun!"
Seaway Kiwanis members will be holding a barbecue at a small cost if attendees would like food at the park.
To accommodate for the event, the Park Service Road will be closed west of Lake Chipican Drive on Saturday from 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Glavin said attendees can access parking at Canatara Beach.
Sarnia Transit will also provide shuttle service between Canatara Park and Northgate Terminal, every 30 minutes beginning at 8 a.m. The last shuttle will leave the park at 12:45 p.m. Regular transit fares will apply.
More details about Easter in the Park can be found on the city's website.
