Police issue warnings as drivers ignore road closed signs

Motorists are being reminded to obey road closed signs and find an alternate route.

Both Lambton OPP and the Sarnia Police Service have recently posted to social media to remind drivers that road closed signs are there for a reason.

In Sarnia, police have received several reports of drivers ignoring road closed signs at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Blackwell Side Road.

Lambton OPP said with ongoing construction in the village of Point Edward, officers have noticed an increase in traffic-related complaints, including vehicles speeding through active work zones and drivers disregarding posted road closure signs.

Police said bypassing a road closure carries a fine of $110 under the Highway Traffic Act.

With construction continuing throughout the summer months, police are also reminding drivers to stay alert and slow down.
