Go ENG Girl is set to return to the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park next weekend.
Executive Director Katherine Albion is inviting Grade 6 to Grade 11 girls and non-binary youth to register for the event.
"We currently have more than 70 girls registered for the November 1 event, plus some of their parents and guardians," Albion said. "We still have some space available for additional registrations."
The deadline to register for the free event is the end of the business day on Monday, October 27.
"This year's activities include a keynote speaker which will be a woman engineer from NOVA Chemicals, and then we've got some activity rotations scheduled," Albion said. "So, there will be an engineering mentorship activity with an engineering culture focus. Then the group will move to an electrical engineering problem solving challenge, as well as a cyber safety and software engineering activity."
Albion said parents and guardians can take part in the programming.
"There will be an opportunity for parents to participate in a panel discussion, where they can ask questions and speak to current students and practicing engineers about their experiences in the engineering schools and the field of engineering," Albion said.
The introduction to engineering is hoped to inspire girls to take science courses through secondary school, keeping the door open for them to pursue careers in engineering and STEM.
"This year we do have a former participant of the Go ENG Girl event. She'll be participating in this year's event as one of the mentors," she said. "We're also seeing recent women grads from the engineering programs at the universities start their engineering careers with the industries here in Sarnia-Lambton."
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 1.
A second event will take place at Western University Campus in London on November 8, from 9 a.m. to noon.
