The Royal Canadian Legion's Poppy Campaign is underway.
From the last Friday of October to November 11, millions of Canadians wear a poppy as a visual pledge to honour Canada's veterans.
Sarnia's Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 President Les Jones said you can find poppies at area businesses across the city.
"We want everybody to wear a poppy, but we ask for a donation for that poppy," said Jones. "That money goes into our poppy trust fund which helps our veterans, and their families in need, and it also helps our local cadet programs here in town as well."
Volunteers started pinning poppies over the weekend.
"Some of them are actual Legion members, some will be in the Legion uniform, and some are just people that have called in and asked to help out," Jones said. "So, they'll be around the city with their poppy boxes."
Jones said they're ready to accept credit and debit cards again this year.
"We have 10 tap boxes that we're spreading out across the city as well, or if you're unable to meet up with one of our volunteers we do have poppy boxes without volunteers placed in various locations throughout the city," he said.
The local Legion is also accepting donations for the Poppy Campaign in person, or by e-transfer at poppyaccounting@sarnialegion.ca.
The poppy has been an emblem of remembrance in Canada since 1921.
