Oil history fuels interest at annual Wheels and Wells Car Show

The correlation between the local oil history and classic cars will be celebrated as the Oil Museum of Canada hosts the second annual Wheels & Wells Car Show.

Marketing and Events Coordinator Jessica Stevenson said they saw an amazing turnout during last year's inaugural event, with over 120 cars and approximately 400 people.

"We thought that a car show is a really great way to celebrate our unique oil history," Stevenson said. "Down the road is where we saw the automotive industry take off; there is no automotive history without that oil history behind it."

Stevenson said the event also serves as an opportunity to celebrate the local community.

"The event admission is free, so it's another chance for people who may have never been to the museum before to check it out," she said.

The Wheels & Wells Car Show is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The car show is open to all makes and models. Pre-registration is not required.

"Car registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and it is by donation, with a suggested amount of $10," Stevenson said.

Car-related artifacts from the museum collection will be on display during the event. There will also be food vendors and local organizations on site, including the Lambton County Historical Society.

"There's going to be some kids' activities, some wooden cars that they can play with and some colouring sheets," Stevenson said. "There's also going to be trivia and a scavenger hunt with some prizes people can win. We're going to have a 50/50 draw that will benefit the museum."

Stevenson said they've been working with the Sarnia Street Cruisers.

"They were a huge help last year in helping us do our first car show," she said. "They provided a lot of really great feedback during our planning process and then they're going to help out again this year to help us park the show cars."

Visitor and participant-voted awards will be presented to outstanding entries.

The event will go ahead rain or shine, however, organizers are hoping for good weather.

Earlier this summer, the museum had to cancel Black Gold Fest due to poor air quality caused by wildfires in northwestern Ontario.
