Sting Wrap Up Regular Season

Sarnia dropped their final game of the regular season, in front of 4,167 fans at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre Sunday night.

After setting franchise records for points and wins in a season, the Sting iced a shortened line up with six defencemen and three forward lines.

Sarnia got off to a positive start when a Brandon Lindberg shot eluded Windsor goalie Mario Culina in the opening minutes of the hockey game. However the lead didn't last long as Windsor tied the game just a few minutes later.

The Spitifres added two more goals in the second period to carry a 3-1 advantage through 40 minutes.

Sarnia started their comeback bid in the third period after falling behind 4-1 as Matt Mistele and Anthony Salinitri answered for the Sting. The goal gives Mistele 33 on the season, his 25th since joining the Sting.

That is as close as Sarnia would come as Windsor added two more goals to double up Sarnia 6-3.

Prior to the game Sarnia honoured overagers Charlie Graham, Matt Mistele and captain Sam Studnicka. All three are ending their OHL careers with the Sting.

With the loss Sarnia finishes the regular season with a record of 42-19-5-2, good ford first place win the West Division.

The Sting will face the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the first round of the playoffs. Game one is Friday and game two will be Sunday, both at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre.
