It's the closest Cole Thompson will come to home on the 2016 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals circuit.
The Brigden native expects to have a good showing from family and friends this weekend when he races at the Gopher Dunes race course in Courtland, about 15 minutes outside of Tillsonburg.
The Gopher Dunes is known as one of the more physically demanding courses on the circuit, but Thompson is no stranger to the sport.
Growing up with older brothers who raced, Thompson knew this was something he wanted to pursue.
"I was always at the track, and around racing, it's something I've loved to do for a long time now."
Into his second year of professional racing, he still can't believe he gets to travel the country racing motocross.
"It's awesome to get to see everything, and do what you love every day and go racing on the weekend," says Thompson. "Getting to travel to knew places in Canada, it's definitely a unique job, but it's not something I take for granted."
Thompson, with KTM Canada Thor Racing, leads the MX2 class (250cc) with 280 points through four rounds, 50 points more than the next best rider.
The 23-year-old finishing second at the season opener in Kamloops, but has stood on the top of the podium in the three rounds since, looking to that momentum going as the series continues to move east.
Up next, the series will head to Quebec, then onto Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
The season ends in Barrie during the August 13 weekend, the only other Ontario race in the series.
