Sting lose to visiting Colts

The visiting Barrie Colts scored two unanswered goals in the third period enroute to a 6-4 win over the Sarnia Sting.

Barrie's Jacob Fraska opened the scoring before Sarnia's Jacob Perreault tied it up but Matej Pekar scored less than a minute later to give the Colts a 2-1 lead after the first period.

Nathan Allenson scored at the two minute mark of the second period before the Sting rallied with three straight goals from Calvin Martin, Colton Kammerer and Sam Bitten.

Then Aiden Brown tallied for Barrie to even the game at 4-4 heading into the third.

The Colts regained the lead at the 14:36 mark of the period on Pekar's second goal of the game and Nathan Allensen scored an empty-netter.

It was Sarnia's fourth straight loss to start the season. Barrie improved to 4-1.

Sarnia associate coach Brad Staubitz said "At points we had momentum in the game especially in the second half of the second period we really started to take over. And again in the third we had a two-man advantage.. the goalie made a great save on Jacob Perreault but we've got to capitalize when those opportunities arise."

Sarnia scored two power play goals and were 4-0 on the penalty kill which impressed Staubitz.

"Realistically in this league a lot of games are going to be won or lost on the power play or penalty kill. Our penalty kill did a solid job getting us through those."

Sting goalie Ethan Langevin stopped 27 shots. Jet Greaves turned aside 18 shots for Barrie.

Sarnia hosts Guelph Sunday at 4:05 p.m. The pregame show starts at 3:40 p.m. on CHOK.
