The Sarnia Legionnaires were outshot 61 to 21 in a 10-7 loss to the visiting Chatham Maroons Thursday night.
Sarnia's Brayden DeGelas had two goals and two assists and six other Legionnaire skaters had a multipoint game in the club's eighth straight loss.
The Maroons scored at 16:08 and 19:22 of the first period and led 2-0 after 20 minutes, outshooting Sarnia 21-4 in the process.
Chatham kept up the pressure in the second, scoring four goals in the first nine minutes to lead 6-1 -- DeGelas got Sarnia on the board at 5:14.
The Legionnaires responded with three goals in under six minutes, including two from Jett Morningstar, to make it 6-4 at 16:01. The wild period continued with two more Maroon goals, at 17:22 and 18:11, before Sarnia's Josh Glavin scored his first GOJHL goal at 18:40. Chatham led 8-5 heading into the third period.
DeGelas scored his second of the game at 2:38. The two sides traded goals at 14:10 and 17:42 -- Carson Peer's fourth of the season made in 9-7. The Maroons scored an empty-netter with 16 seconds on the clock to complete the road win.
"I thought that we responded in a positive way after being down but unfortunately we gave them too many easy goals and it cost us," said Derek DiMuzio, Legionnaires head coach .
DiMuzio said the team is playing guys at different roles right now.
"And they're not as comfortable as the guys that aren't with us right now and you're going to take those lumps and they have to learn from that experience," he said. "We told them what to expect and we told them what to do. It's just when you get put into a pressure situation, you go back to habits and some of our guys have not developed those habits yet and they need to."
Ethan Everaert turned away 51 shots in the loss and former Legionnaire Nolan DeKoning made 14 saves in Chatham's goal.
The loss drops Sarnia's record to 9-28-0-1 on the season. The club is back in action Friday night in St. Thomas.
