WEEDC Debate To Drag On

The war of words between a Windsor city councillor and the Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation continues.

A motion to restructure WEEDC was deferred by Councillor Hilary Payne at Monday night's meeting, however, the corporation still provided 2014 business retention and expansion stats.

One of those figures shows 800 jobs linked to BRE activity in the last year, but Payne remains distraught. "In London, just up the road, they brought in $10-million (in new investments in 2013) and 1,700 jobs."

WEEDC CEO Sandra Pupatello says she enjoyed taking questions from members of council, with the exception of one. "The only ones are those particular questions from that councillor, who seems seized of reaching out for a negative story, as opposed to others who have asked questions, genuinely interested in the answer."

The economic development corporation will return to council to again face Payne's notice of motion on April 20.
