Cora LaRussa - Green Party

Cora LaRussa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Victoria. She follows Canadian politics with vigour and was attracted to the Green Party in large part because of their emphasis on restoring democracy, fixing our failed electoral system, and empowering members of parliament to truly represent citizens across the country. She is a strong advocate for social justice and has worked and volunteered in the not-for-profit sector since 2006, she is currently on maternity leave from her position as a fundraising coordinator.

Cora is especially passionate about international human rights, sustainable global development and gender equality. Her passion has been exemplified by her extensive work to support related initiatives in Latin America, East and Sub Saharan Africa. As the Executive Director of Ethiopiaid Canada from 2011-2014, Cora headed a small organization with limited resources and supported a wide range of health care and education programs for those living in extreme poverty. Cora now contributes to international development work through her role as a member of the Board of Directors for the Canada-Africa Partnership on AIDS.

Growing up with parents who operated a small local business, Cora learned early-on the value that these enterprises have for the economy and for the community. Now married to an entrepreneur, she continues to appreciate the diversity brought to communities by small business.

Cora has recently welcomed her first child to the world. She believes that we must act now, together, to ensure a thriving Canada for the next generation and for generations to come. Cora believes a healthy environment must be the foundation for a strong democracy, a stable economy, and a supportive social system.
