Due to strong winds, a flood warning has been issued in the Windsor-Essex region.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority says 44-50 km/hr winds are expected out of the northeast and east-northeast, with the potential for wind gusts exceeding 60 km/hr.
Conservation authority officials say a flood watch has been upgraded to a flood warning for the southeast shoreline of Leamington between Wheatley Harbour and Point Pelee due to flooding over portions of the road in the Cotterie Park area.
Tim Byrne, the conservation authority's director of watershed management services, says flooded roadways should not be considered safe to drive through.
"There's always an issue when there's standing water on traveled roadways. The roadways servicing our shorelines are not perfectly level," he says. "There are dips in the road and in those areas, the standing water could be significantly deeper."
The conservation authority says there is also a possibility of flooding, shoreline erosion and damaging waves along the Lake Erie shoreline on the east side of Pelee Island, and the Lake St. Clair shoreline from the western limit of Lakeshore to the eastern limits of Windsor. The Detroit River may also experience increased water levels due to the lake setup.
The warning will remain in effect until further notice.
