Town council hopes to have the budget finalized by the end of the year, after finalizing the books for 2015 in May. Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says everything the town does to improve its finances should improve confidence, including approving a timeline.
"Obviously there will be some last minute adjustments because we will have to speculate on the last quarter of the year but I think administration is prepared for that."
The continuation of levies has some on council concerned, but DiCarlo says the plan so far, is to keep any increases in line with inflation. Last year, council approved a 2% capital replacement levy and a 2% capital reserve levy.
DiCarlo also says the public will have a month to respond to the draft budget document.
"I don't know how that will translate into open meetings. That's a discussion council still has to have," he says. "But I think we've made it pretty clear that this council is definitely open to feedback from the residents."
In 2015, Amherstburg set a $18.5-million operating budget and a total capital budget of $10.5-million.
