'Thanks, But No Thanks'

LaSalle isn't interested in a joint police service with Windsor.

Council unanimously voted to decline the city's request for information so it could provide a police costing quote for the town's consideration.

Mayor Ken Antaya says council doesn't want to be part of any further amalgamated policing talks.

"By entertaining it, we're just keeping this ball in the air and we have no interest. No interest at all," says Antaya. "I think that, 'Thanks, but no thanks' to the City of Windsor and hopefully they take it for what it's worth and move on. We didn't ask for it. We weren't interested in it."

Antaya adds if council decides the policing model in LaSalle needs to be reviewed in the future, the town will put out a request for proposals looking at all options.

"If OPP [Ontario Provincial Police] continues going in the direction they are with their costing, we're going to have to take a look at it at some time in the future and our community will have to make a conscious decision," says Antaya.

The city has also made the same request of the Town of Amherstburg.
