The Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation is attempting to grow the music industry in the region in an effort to reduce youth unemployment.
The corporation is focusing on developing the technical industry and teaching artists and musicians to be business savvy.
"We've found that the music industry is one that we have a developing industry, it's in its nascent stage but it needs more help and support and we can grow it here," says Interim CEO Rakesh Naidu.
He says focusing on the technical side makes sense for the region.
"There are a lot of opportunities here especially on the technical side of the music industry. We are very good at the technical industry no matter what it is so I think that is very natural for us to develop," says Naidu.
The corporation is holding a boot camp in connection with the Canadian Music Incubator to teach the business side of the industry to artists and managers. The boot camp will be held June 25 and 26.
"An artist by himself sometimes cannot necessarily take good care of the business, and it's a business at the end of the day. And not all of the artists are entrepreneurs so we need to provide them with the tools so they can turn it into a successful business," says Naidu.
