The proposal to reduce uptown parking time limits in Leamington is proving to be somewhat contentious for residents.
Director of Legal and Legislative Services Ruth Orton says it's the main concern they're hearing at the two public open houses that have been held on the matter.
Orton says the changes are meant to address concerns the municipality has been getting from the uptown community.
"Particularly, we have had issues with persons who choose not to pay for permit parking and may go spend their time moving their vehicles to avoid getting a ticket," says Orton.
She says the municipality is trying to find the right balance in its parking enforcement.
"We've had some concerns with over enforcement of our parking provisions and under enforcement of our parking provisions, so we're looking to address some of those concerns in these proposed changes," says Orton.
The proposed changes would see parking time limits reduced to 30 minutes from the current two hours allowed in the uptown.
A report to council on the matter is expected in May.
The third and final open house is set for April 6 at the Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Complex. It's scheduled to run from 5pm to 7pm.
