The Amherstburg Farmers Market is looking forward to another exciting season after getting some good news.
Amherstburg councillors agreed to waive over $6,000 in licensing fees the market was entitled to pay under the new fees calendar was approved.
Market Manager Rebecca Mickle says she's not sure the market would have continued if the fees were not waived.
"The money that we make goes directly into our insurance and running of the market so any large expense like that would have really hurt us," she says.
Mickle says this year the market will be held at the little white church on the corner of Howard Ave. and County Rd. 20 on Saturday mornings starting May 21 and running until October 8.
"We're going to be having live music at every market day and they are all local musicians, so that's going to be really exciting. And we have some events planned. We're hopefully going to be having a free yoga day, a petting zoo, just different things to get families out to the market," says Mickle.
This year the market is opening to artisan vendors for the first time. The market will also feature local produce and baked goods.
