Spitfires Hopeful After Bid

The Windsor Spitfires are feeling positive after making a bid to the Canadian Hockey League for the Memorial Cup in 2017.

"I think it went very, very well. I think everything that was presented represented the city well. So we are very hopeful," says Steve Horne, director of business development for the Windsor Spitfires.

This is the third time the Spitfires have made the trek up the 401 for the chance to host the tournament.

"I think we touched all the bases that we had to," says Horne. "They always look at the quality of the facility, and I think we have the best facility in the CHL here. I think they talk about the infrastructure of the city. I think the quality of the team is one of the key touch points and I think Warren Rychel did a fabulous job at making sure that message was portrayed."

The CHL has not announced which other teams are competing to host the tournament. The tournament is open to the 19 teams in the OHL however no other team has gone on record to announce intentions of bidding.

An announcement is expected to be made just prior to the 2016 Memorial Cup in Red Deer Alberta in May.
