Special Parking Rate Denied

A new downtown restaurant owner is accusing the city of playing favourties after being denied a special parking rate agreement.

The owners of 14 Skylounge, the former Windsor Club, wanted a similar parking voucher program that the Keg currently uses. Under the program the restaurant pays for discounted parking vouchers for the city parking garage to give to customers.

Joseph Mikhail says after putting $1-million into the new restaurant he expected fair treatment. "We are taxpayers same as the Keg. We hire employees the same, we invested heavily in the same fashion as the Keg has for the growth of the core," says Mikhail. The city denied the request because they have decided to move away from agreements like the Keg's. They say the Keg's agreement will not be renewed when it expires in a year and a half.

14 Skylounge will open shortly for lunch and dinner service as well as private functions like weddings and banquets.
