Tecumseh Town Councillor Passes Suddenly

A news release from the Town of Tecumseh confirms the sudden death of Ward Two Councillor Mike Rohrer.

The news of his death became public just after noon with a tweet from the Tecumseh Fire Service that Rohrer had passed away early Saturday morning.  A cause of death has not been made public.

The release from the town says Tecumseh Town Council and Administration are deeply saddened.

"His presence at the council table will be missed."

Rohrer made his first foray into politics in the mid-1990s and ran unsuccessfully in both 1995 and 1999 as a provincial Conservative in the riding of Windsor-Walkerville.  Both times, he lost to Liberal Dwight Duncan.

He was instrumental in the fight to keep St.Gregory Catholic Elementary School open.  The school closed in 2014 but reopened again in September for French Immersion students.

He was elected to Tecumseh Town Council in 2014.

Rohrer was married with three children and was a member of the Beach Grove Golf and Country Club, as well as serving as a Eucharistic Minister at the Good Shepherd Parish - St.Gregory.
