Grand Prix Organizers Thrilled With Attendance

Organizers of this year's Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix say attendance at this year's event topped 95,000 for the fourth time in five years.

"Our ticket sales were strong," says Chair of the Grand Prix Bud Denker. "We believe we would have topped the 100,000 mark if it weren't raining everywhere else in the Detroit area Sunday."

Despite the threat of rain on Belle Isle, 30,000 fans came out to watch the races. Attendance on Friday was 25,000 and on Saturday, 40,000, one of the most attended Saturdays in Grand Prix history.

It was also a big winner on social media.

Total social media impressions rose from 139.5-million in 2015 to more than 156-million this year, up 11.5%. On Twitter, the Grand Prix generated over 97-million potential impressions and trended for at least nine hours in Detroit. It also did well in other markets like Denver and Indianapolis. Facebook impressions topped 1.2-million over three days.
