Flags Lowered At City Hall For Orlando Victims

Flags are flying at half mast this week at Windsor City Hall in honour of those who lost their lives and were injured during the shooting at an Orlando nightclub.

As BlackburnNews.com told you Monday,  a vigil is also being held at 7pm Wednesday outside the Squirrel Cage on Maiden Lane in downtown Windsor organized by the Windsor-Essex Pride Fest.

Mayor Drew Dilkens will be in attendance.

“This shooting is a tragedy on so many levels,” says Dilkens. “Lowering the city flag and coming together on Wednesday night is our way of showing that we stand together for our neighbours in the United States.”

Police say 49 people were killed inside gay bar Pulse nightclub, dozens more injured, when a gunman opened fired. FBI have identified the shooter as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, an American-born Muslim, who appears to be a “homegrown extremist."

Officials continue to investigate for possible motives.
