The Amherstburg woman charged in connection with a baby that was found dead in a London dumpster is out on bail.
Samantha Richards, 23, has been charged with one count of neglecting to obtain assistance in childbirth and with disposing of a child’s body after delivery.
The infant's body was discovered in a dumpster on Richmond St. and Mill St. on June 16 around 11:30am.
While appearing at a bail hearing on Thursday, both the Crown and Defense reached an agreement for the terms of Richards' release on bail, which has been set at $5,000. As well, she is not have any contact with a number of previously known individuals, and she must not have contact with children under 10 unless supervised with another adult.
Her court-appointed surety is her mother who will watch and take care of Richards in a London residence.
Richards was arrested in Amherstburg on June 18 after police issued an appeal to the public in hopes of finding the child’s mother, citing concern for her welfare. London police say the woman received medical attention and was then transported back to London.
The infant's final autopsy results have not been released and police say it could take months before the cause of death is determined.
A publication ban has been imposed on evidence and information heard in court.
Richards’ next court date is Thursday, August 11.
