Attendance Worries Afternoons In The Alley Coordinator

The coordinator of Afternoons In The Alley in downtown Windsor is worried about low attendance.

The event follows the Downtown Farmers Market every Saturday on Maiden Ln. and features local businesses and performers, but since it started June 18, Austin DiPietro admits fewer people than anticipated are coming.

"Probably about 20 people walk through the alley," says DiPietro. "The first day that we started out -- we had a good amount of people. We probably had 30 to 40."

DiPietro believes the word just hasn't gotten out.

This Saturday, Afternoons In The Alley presents the 519 Band, a local R-and-B band. On July 16, performers from the University of Windsor will entertain attendees, and on July 30, the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association presents Fiesta Latina, which will include food, music and Zumba dancing.

DiPietro won't say if the event is in danger of being cancelled.

"Not this year," he says. "But, I mean, we're trying to plan for next year too. We're looking into what we can change, and we're really pushing on social media. We're trying to see what we can do to increase our attendance."

Afternoons In The Alleys is free every Saturday until September 3, from 2pm to 8pm.
