Donation Going Toward Coat Drive

Officials at the Unemployed Help Centre are confident they will be able to provide a coat for everyone in need this year.

That's despite not reaching their goal of 6,000 coats in the gently used coat drive. To help make up the difference TD Canada Trust made a $4,500 donation to the charity to help purchase new coats.

"We know from looking at what we have we don't have 6,000 coats so today this donation means a lot to us. $2,500 of it will go toward purchasing new coats," says June Muir with the Unemployed Help Centre.

Muir says with the money they will be able purchase specific sizes they need like larger kids sizes and adult coats for teenagers.

"No one is going to go away without a coat if we don't have a coat we're going to take their name and number and we'll get them a coat. We're hoping that more donations roll in like this one so we'll be able to purchase coats if we don't have them," says Muir.

The remaining money from this donation will go toward stocking the food bank shelves.

The coat drive is officially done but coats can still be donated at the Unemployed Help Centre. Distribution of the coats will begin on November 12. For a distribution location visit the Unemployed Help Centre website.
