Windsor Police Ready To Implement New Regulations

Windsor Police Chief Al Frederick is feeling a bit more comfortable with new anti-carding regulations coming into effect January 1.

He believes there will still be challenges around the new approach but after the entire force has received training he is confident they will adapt.

According to the new regulation officers must tell everyone they approach they have the right to not respond and they must issue a receipt telling the individual why they were approached.

"There will be some that don't stop but we feel with the relationships and the interactions and the professionalism of our officers that for the most part there will be cooperation," says Frederick.

Frederick says he's just thankful the Windsor Police Service Board and city council support the police service here in Windsor.

Earlier this week London City Council passed a motion to ask the police service to stop street checks, going beyond the new provincial legislation.

Frederick believes it would be dangerous for public safety if police were unable to approach people in public.
