The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority is contracting the Cross Border Institute at the University of Windsor to undertake an economic impact and opportunities study on the Gordie Howe Bridge and its construction.
The University of Windsor will partner with the Michigan State University's Canadian Studies Centre to analyze the economic impact and supply chain/logistics.
"Having the new bridge and having improved quality of accessibility through this corridor will have a big impact on all those trucks that serve the auto industry and the agri-food industry and what not," says Bill Anderson with the Cross Border Institute.
The study will cost $1-million and take around 20 months to complete. It will be done in three phases and will identify the economic spinoff from the construction as well as opportunities once the bridge is in service.
"We want to look at where there's going to be opportunities created by this project and we'll get right down to the level of where land is available for development, and how the accessibility to that land will change," says Anderson.
Anderson says there will be opportunities for residents to comment on different phases of the project.
