Each municipality in Essex County has its own program for Christmas tree collection, but officials in each ask residents to strip the tree bare of all tree skirts, ornaments, tinsel and lights.
Artificial trees will not be collected.
In Essex, residents have until January 30 to drop off their tree. Drop off is offered at three locations: Co-An Parking Lot at 11071 Conc. 11 in McGregor, at the Harrow and Colchester South Community Centre on McAffee Street in Harrow, and at the Kinsmen Field House Parking Lot on Fairview Ave. in Essex Centre.
The trees will be mulched for horticultural recycling programs throughout Essex.
Leamington holds its tree collection January 4 and 5. Residents are asked to put it at the end of their driveway no later than 7am.
Trees have to be at the curb no later than 7am Monday, January 9 in Kingsville and collection in Tecumseh starts Monday, January 16.
The Town of Lakeshore has six drop-off spots: the Comber Community Centre, Centennial Park, Leffler Park, Woodslee Memorial Park, Fire Station #2 and at the former Belle River Arena site on Rourke Ln. The service is available until the end of January.
There are five drop-off locations in LaSalle. There is no drop off at the Fire Station on Normandy, but it is offered at River Canard Park, Gil Maure Park, Heritage Park, Vince Marcotte Park and at LaSalle Public Works on Victory St.
Finally, the City of Windsor collection starts January 10 and continues through January 20. Residents are asked to check their collection calendar for the exact date of pickup in their area. Trees need to be on the curb no later than 6am and if it is longer than 6 ft, it will have to be cut in half.
