Transit Service Coming To LaSalle

The Town of LaSalle will soon be offering transit service to its residents.

Councillors unanimously approved entering into an agreement with Transit Windsor to purchase two buses and deliver the service. The single route will be covered by the two buses, one starting at St. Clair College and the other in the area of Morton Dr. at Front Rd. It will take around 45 minutes to travel the entire route. The route will connect with Transit Windsor routes South Windsor 7, Dougall 6 and Dominion 5.

"It's going to make the town of LaSalle more marketable because now we're going to give people more options.  You've got an aging population as well as a young population who are going to use it a lot," says Councillor Jeff Renaud.

He thinks it will be particularly beneficial for families with children going to St. Clair College or the University of Windsor.

The buses will start to operate in LaSalle in September 2017. Fees will be waived for the remainder of 2017 while the route is established. Starting in 2018, fares will be consistent with Transit Windsor rates.

The agreement with Transit Windsor will be in place until 2021. It will cost the Town of LaSalle around $430,000 in 2017 to establish the system. That includes the purchase of two buses, bus shelters and signage. The route in LaSalle will have a designated route number, and fares occurring on the LaSalle route will be credited to LaSalle.
