After more than 45 years on Ouellette Ave. near Wyandotte St. in downtown Windsor, World Cottage is closing.
Owner Riaz Bhatti is retiring and passing the building on to his children, who expect to turn it into law offices.
His son Sunny Bhatti likes the fact that the university and college are moving into the neighbourhood, and says it will be a bonus if the law school becomes part of that.
"The potential is endless [downtown]. I've always said that," states Bhatti. "Even when my dad had thoughts about selling the building, my sisters, my mom and I, we all convinced him to just keep it because there's a lot of potential in the next year."
In the meantime, World Cottage will be doing its best to sell off its remaining inventory over the next few months.
Bhatti says it's sad to see the business go, but he's excited about the next chapter for the family's downtown property.
He thinks it's going to take at least $250,000 worth of renovations this fall, before it can accommodate six or seven different law offices.
