Residents in Windsor, Lakeshore and Tecumseh with damage from last week's flood can now apply for funding through the provincial disaster relief program.
But after a tour of some of the hardest hit areas, NDP leader Andrea Horwath says the government needs to do more to help the residents of Windsor.
"The plan, it's not effective, it doesn't really help people. Even last time when people in Windsor were flooded out many people didn't get any help whatsoever," says Horwath.
To find out more details about how to apply and who qualifies for the disaster relief fund visit the ministry website. Application forms will also be available at City of Windsor community centres and the City Hall reception desk in the coming days.
For anyone who needs assistance filling out the paper work Family Services Windsor-Essex is offering their services. Once residents have the application form, they can call 519-966-5010, or toll free 1-888-933-1831.
Mayor Drew Dilkens says he has asked the province to give some Detroit companies permits to help clear the garbage, but he's not seeing any progress.
Instead, the city is seeing garbage trucks come in from Toronto and Thunder Bay to help clear the streets.
The city has also cancelled recycling collection for the next three days to redirect resources to garbage collection.
