Statistics Canada is providing a city-by-city break down of today's census data which paints a picture of the ethnic makeup of the country.
Much like Canada overall, one in five Windsor residents was born in another country. A total of 74,495 people in the city chose to become Canadian citizens. That is 22.9% of the population.
Of those, 10,105 are recent immigrants having arrived between 2011 and 2016.
There are 151 different ethnicities represented in Windsor. A total of 27,121 come from European countries making up the largest block of immigrants in the city. Those from the Middle East are 17,570 strong, and there are 15,825 immigrants from Asia.
The number of American born residents total 6,005, while 3,630 residents cited an African country as their country of origin, and 2,165 said they were from Central America.
The five largest ethnic communities in the city are from Iraq, the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Lebanon.
In Leamington, 9,565 residents said they had immigrated to Canada or 20% of the population, including 630 since 2011.
