A Windsor man is facing charges after a drug lab was discovered Friday.
Windsor police conducted a search on Gem Ave. after getting a tip that a man was in possession of a firearm. When they searched the home, officers found two pellet guns, bear spray, a breathing mask, chemicals known to be used for making homemade explosives, and chemicals known to be used in the production of methamphetamine.
Police officers closed Gem Ave. on Friday afternoon for the Explosive Disposal Unit to investigate. They determined none of the items posed an immediate threat and the road was reopened.
Police returned Saturday afternoon with the OPP Clandestine Laboratory Team to collect further evidence and dispose of any hazardous material. Officers retrieved samples and then safely processed numerous hazardous items. Ten unknown substances were seized and will be forwarded to Health Canada for analysis.
The 38-year-old Windsor man associated with the investigation is charged with production of a controlled substance and possession of items for use in the production of methamphetamine.
Windsor police say labs of this nature can be extremely dangerous. They can be linked to poisoned air, contaminated structures, and toxic environments. Accidents like fires and explosions are common place and can put entire neighbourhoods at risk.
