Local police are reminding parents and drivers to take extra caution during trick or treating on Hallowe'en night.
Windsor police Sergeant Steve Betteridge says parents should take a look at their children's costumes to make sure there aren't any hazards.
"Make sure it's visible, make sure you can be seen by people driving vehicles and that comes also comes into play with how they are covering their face. If they have a mask on, make sure the trick or treater can see," says Betteridge.
He says you should also make sure the costume fits properly and there are not any tripping hazards. For drivers, Betteridge says if you need to go somewhere make sure to plan ahead.
"Plan where you are going, maybe even leave a little extra time because you have to use extra caution because of the increase in pedestrian traffic on the roadways," says Betteridge.
Finally, though he admits its extremely rare, Betteridge is reminding parents to check out the Halloween loot for any candy that has been tampered with.
"Make sure to have an adult or parent go through that candy. Make sure that everything looks secure and safe. If there's any kind of open wrappers or packages, those should be obviously discarded," says Betteridge.
Betteridge says it's always a busy night for police but generally they do not have issues with property damage or mischief.
