Amherstburg To Approve Budget, Kingsville Previews Budget

So long as Amherstburg Town Council signs off on it, residents can expect a 1.69% increase on their property tax bill next year.

It is anticipated council will approve its spending plan for 2018 Monday night. The town is only hiking its levy by 0.83%, but once the county and school board portions are calculated in, the average household should expect to pay another $54.31.

Amherstburg's budget calls for funding for the Belle Vue House, a massive renovation project at one of the town's oldest homes dating back to the War of 1812, $300,000 to fix up Creek Rd., and $75,000 for water rescue equipment for the fire department.

However, a report to council says the $5-million capital budget highlights a "significant infrastructure funding gap". While the council does plan to spend a little more on roads and bridges, the report says the gap in funding is growing and will continue to.

Meanwhile, Kingsville Town Council will get its first look at its budget for 2018. Last year, the town approved a 2.4% increase or a hike of $31.52 on a home valued at $200,000.
