The Town of Lakeshore wants to invest more money to prevent basements from flooding in the future.
Town council has passed in principle its spending plan for next year, which calls for $1.3-million for its Flood Defence Action Strategy and Plan. That includes subsidies for residents who want to install a backflow valve, sump pump overflow outlets, and disconnecting their downspouts.
The budget calls for a 2.03% increase in the property tax bill or another $50 for a home valued at $200,000. That is down from a proposed 2.7% increase.
The town also plans to spend $6.9-million on new roads. That includes work on Puce Rd., Patillo Rd., and Wallace Line Rd.
In 2018, the town will add more staff for its Day Camp programs, add benches and picnic tables in parks, and improve snow removal in parks and on pathways.
A new River Ridge Park Master Site Plan is also included in the budget.
Councillors still have to give the budget final approval.
Last year, residents saw their property taxes rise 3.03%, or another $72 on the the bill for a home valued at $200,000.
