Leamington Residents to Pay 1.8% More In 2018

Residents of Leamington will be paying a little more in property taxes in 2018.

After two days of deliberations, Leamington Council approved the municipality's budget for 2018, including a 1.8% increase to the municipal levy.

The owner of a $175,000 home will be paying an additional $36.39 a year in property tax.

Leamington Mayor John Paterson says residents should expect no changes in city services. In fact, he says services may improve.

“This year’s budget is a sustainable and responsible budget that will provide and enhance services to the municipality of Leamington,” says Paterson in a statement. "Our goal is to improve the quality of life for our residents. We will see significant investment throughout our community, while also maintaining healthy reserves of $54-million."

The municipality is budgeting $29.5-million for capital improvement projects, almost the same as in the 2017 spending plan.

Some major projects scheduled for the new year include the Pelee Dr-Bevel Line sanitary sewer improvement, plus sewer separation along Erie St S.

For parks and recreation, Leamington will create cycling lanes along County Rd 20, along with various park improvements and programming at the Seacliff Park Amphitheatre.

The municipality will have the complete budget available for public viewing online.
