Roads, park improvements and investment in the arts are all part of the $643-million six-year capital budget plan approved by Windsor City Council Tuesday afternoon.
The plan includes $60-million of spending in 2018 on roads and sewers. But Mayor Drew Dilkens says he's proud it also includes some other diverse projects.
"Certainly I think it addressed the multiple needs that exist across the city and then there were some exciting things that we were able to add that I think will be of interest to people who live here, that make investments in our city and the parks that we own and address some of the concerns we've heard throughout the year," says Dilkens.
Although there were some attempts to adjust the $22.6-million enhanced capital budget plan, the plan was ultimately approved as presented to council Monday night.
The plan includes an additional $10.7-million for roads, $4.1-millionn for parks, some improvements to the trails on Peche Island and equipment for the Windsor International Film Festival.
This is the first year the city has created a six-year capital budget plan as they move toward a provincially mandated ten-year outlook.
"When you do a six-year capital plan we agreed that we're only going to pull projects within the five-year window so anything that's in year six will not be moving forward until it's in year five or earlier," says Dilkens.
On Monday night, council approved the 2018 operating budget with an increase of 0.9%.
