The president of the Windsor Police Association admits he was surprised when he heard the Windsor Police Service is being investigated.
The Ontario Civilian Police Commission is investigating complaints about unfair promotion practices, nepotism, interference in legal proceedings, and allowing a toxic workplace to flourish.
Jason Dejong admits this investigation is unusual because the union never received any complaints from the officers.
"There have been no formal requests for grievances, or any formal procedures through the association to address these issues," he says.
Dejong says he's never seen anything like this in his time as a police officer.
"I cannot recall OCPC conducting an investigation into the police service as far as I can remember," says Dejong.
Dejong is not sure what the union's role will be in all of this but says it will support the officers who made the allegations.
"The OCPC, I don't know if they'll be reaching out to the association or not. Certainly, as an association representative of the members, we'll provide support to the members," Dejong says.
Dejong says he doesn't know how many officers complained or who they are but adds the union will do what it can to resolve their concerns.
