US Ambassador To Canada Refuses Question On WTO Complaint

A day after the United States filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization over Canada's retaliatory tariffs, the U.S. Ambassador to Canada walked away from reporters when one raised the issue.

Kelly Craft was attending the groundbreaking for advance construction on the Detroit side of what will be the Gordie Howe International Bridge Tuesday.

After taking a question about President Trump's committal to the new border crossing, BlackburnNews.com asked the ambassador for her comment on the latest salvo in the trade war between the two countries.

Instead, Craft walked swiftly away from reporters.

Canada initially filed a complaint with the world body arguing American tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum are illegal. The U.S. says they are justified in the name of national security, but Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland has called the reasoning absurd.

The Trump Administration is arguing that while its tariffs are legal, the tariffs Canada has imposed in return are not.

Complaints have also been filed against China, the European Union, Mexico and Turkey.

The Canadian government has announced $2-billion in funding to help the steel and aluminum industries during the trade dispute.
