Borrelli Files For Re-Election

Another Windsor city councillor is asking his ward for another four years.

Ward 10 Councillor Paul Borrelli stopped by the City Clerk's office at City Hall Friday morning to officially file his nomination papers for the October municipal election.

Speaking to BlackburnNewsWindsor.com after filing his papers, Borrelli says he's proud of his record in regards to infrastructure in his ward, particularly in road work.

"North Service Rd. has been in deplorable condition for years and years and years, and it's finally done, and of course the fire station itself," says Borrelli. "I've also allocated $2.25-million towards the Northwood and Dominion corner, where the mosque is."

Borrelli believes he is the best person to continue overseeing that work in his ward, which spans west and central Windsor.

"There's so much work that is already in progress, but it requires attention by a councillor like myself," says Borrelli. "I've gotten a lot of things done and I'm going to continue to get things done."

If re-elected, Borrelli would serve his second term on council.

So far, Borrelli has two challengers in Ward 10, community activist Mohamed Chams and former bank manager Jim Morrison, who narrowly lost to Borrelli four years ago. The incumbent says he welcomes the competition, but is determined not to resort to negative campaigning.

"One of my opponents has created smear tactics by making false accusations, like I've used ward funds for instance. Totally false," says Borrelli. "Or that I've violated the Municipal Act of Ontario. Totally false."

Borrelli is referring to allegations by his former campaign manager, now working with an opponent, that Borrelli violated election law by improperly using ward funds.

The candidate has denied any wrongdoing. The city's manager of records and elections has stated that his department will not investigate because Borrelli had not registered as a candidate at that point.

The municipal election is October 22. Candidates have until 2pm July 27 to file their papers.
