Dilkens Running For Mayor Again

Drew Dilkens is seeking a second term as mayor of Windsor.

Dilkens announced his intentions for the October 22 municipal election Tuesday morning. He says he will continue with fixing sewers and roads, fighting rising crime, and working in the best interest of Windsor. The incumbent mayor says there are bidding wars on homes and property values are going up because Windsor has a lot to offer.

Dilkens says he will continue putting his stamp on the city and pushing his proven track record.

"Proven and successful track record that has seen unemployment in the community drop from 9.7% to 5.9%. A proven and successful plan that has seen record investments in our infrastructure, in our roads and our sewers," Dilkens says.

Mayor Dilkens points to expanding transit into Lasalle and offering to police Amherstburg as examples of important partnerships and regionalization but says building up old neighbourhoods, like Walkerville and Sandwich Towne, is also important.

Dilkens was elected mayor in 2014 after serving for eight years as a councillor.

Matt Marchand, Tom Hensel, Ernie "The Baconman" Lamont, and Frank Dyck are also running for mayor.

Dilkens says his plan has worked over the last four years and wants to continue improving Windsor.

"A proven and successful plan that has seen building permits rise from $211-million to $359-million and we have done all of that while continuing to hold the line on taxes," the mayor says.

Dilkens says the city has turned around for the better and can't afford to go back to the fiscal problems of the 90s.

"If I look at my competitor [Marchand] and look at what my competitor is talking about in this campaign, we can't afford to go back to the 1990s when the city was increasing debt and using its credit card to finance operations," says Dilkens.
