The clock is running out for anyone who wants to run in this fall's municipal election.
The deadline to file nomination papers is at 2pm on Friday.
Meanwhile, a former BlackburnNews.com reporter/newscaster is running for town council in Kingsville.
Kevin Black thinks his background as a small business owner and his 15 years in broadcasting could be a real asset for Kingsville residents.
"One of the things that Kingsville has had a bit of an issue with is communication," says Black. "Helping residents understand some of the things that are happening, and this is an area that's great to visit for tourists, but sometimes it gets a little bit overlooked."
The town has seen a lot of growth in recent years with new housing developments and businesses moving in, but Black says unless the town can plan wisely, Kingsville is at risk of losing its identity.
"They're seeing a lot of new development," Black says. "Making sure that all of that is done in an effort to highlight the town as best as possible. Don't just plop a condo at the busiest intersection of the town."
Black is one of 13 candidates running for municipal council in Kingsville. Incumbents, Thomas Neufeld, Larry Patterson, and Tony Gaffan are running again. The slate also includes John Lein, Laura Lucier, Jackie Kerr, Kim Gilliland, Kim De Yong, Corey Gosselin, Barry Wilson, Paul Lariviere, and Michael Laba.
Nelson Santos is running for re-election as mayor and Gord Queen for deputy mayor.
In Windsor, Rino Bortolin is the last incumbent to file papers this week to run for city council. He represents Ward 3. He faces competition from three others, Patricia Mary Copus, Benjamin Kolaczek, and Steve Palenkas.
The municipal election is on October 22.
